Mistress and maid

About This Project

Mistress and maid portrays a truly Vermeerian, scene, with a mistress sitting at the table writing while her maid brings her a note. The writing, the different social classes portrayed, the pearls, fabrics and even the yellow garment of the mistress are elements found in several of Vermeer’s paintings.

Montoya greatly enjoyed scattering the scintillating light reflected by the mistress’s dress, the pearls in her jewellery and her head dress, using the technique learnt from the Dutch master.
