A maid asleep

About This Project

The original name for this painting was Een dronke slafende Meyd aen een Tafel (A sleeping drunken maid at the table), which explains why in A maid asleep we see the wine jug, the clear untidiness of the table or the glass with some leftover drink, pointing to the reason why the woman in question is asleep.

Montoya used a slightly warmer colour scheme when reproducing this painting, highlighting the red tones in elements such as the dress, the chair, the tablecloth or the fruit on the table.
