A girl reading a letter by an open window

About This Project

In A girl reading a letter by an open window, the austere background wall and the light coming in through the window on the left highlight the girl reading the letter prominently. Her enigmatic expression leaves open our interpretation of the nature of the letter.

The way in which the light reflects on the red window curtains, on the green curtain which opens to reveal the girl reading, as well as the girl’s reflection on the inside window pane, makes this one of Vermeer’s richest works, faithfully reproduced by Montoya, who imprints his deep love and admiration for the Flemish master in every brushstroke.
